Overview
Established in 1979, the Crossways Community Creche (Crossways) is an early childhood centre providing education and care for children from one to five years of age. Based in a heritage cottage in Mount Victoria, Wellington, it is designed to provide a place for children to explore, learn and grow. The dedicated team of qualified early childhood teachers and volunteers provide a warm, loving environment that is like a second home for both children and their families. Crossways has a long standing reputation for providing quality early childhood education through a curriculum based on fun and respect, and high teacher to child ratios. Crossways aims to operate as a high quality, sustainable, parent-run organisation benefiting the children of the Wellington region today and in the future.
Crossways operates 5 days a week, from 8.30am - 2.30pm, with a maximum of 22 children attending a day, to serve the around 26 families from across Wellington who form the current Crossway's community. The Crossway's teaching team includes 3 fully qualified teachers, 1 teaching assistant, and 1 wonderful volunteer. The Crossways' community is particularly inclusive and engaged in the creche due to its special nature as a parent-run cooperative. Parent involvement includes running the Committee, attending maintenance working bees, and a commitment to provide an adult as 'Parent Help' for one session every 6 weeks. This additional involvement from each family benefits the children and creates a strong bond amongst the broader Crossways Community.
